Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa

We are proud to manage the Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa fund on behalf of Sport New Zealand in our region.

Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa provides funding for programmes or projects delivering play, active recreation and sport experiences for tamariki and rangatahi. These may be new or already operating.

Sport Bay of Plenty Priorities:

Sport Bay of Plenty will prioritise from the following groups/locations:

  • Priority communities – core investment group from Sport NZ
  • Young Woman and Girls (5-18 years old)
  • Disabled Tamariki and Rangatahi (5-18 years old) (Including those in school up to the age of 21 years old)

Who can apply?

Find out if your organisation is eligible for Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa funding.

Organisations must be a legal entity to apply for Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa. Your organisation must be able to demonstrate at least one of the following:

  • Organisation’s primary purpose is to provide play, active recreation and/or sport OR
  • Play, active recreation and/or sport is an important and mandated part of your organisation OR
  • You present play, active recreation and/or sport in a kaupapa Māori content OR
  • You can demonstrate a relationship and impact working with one of our priority groups – young people who experience high deprivation, young women aged 18-24, and young people with disabilities (aged 5-18).

Examples of who can apply:

  • Hapū, Iwi, Marae, Māori organisations
  • Primary/Intermediate schools/Kura
  • Secondary schools/Wharekura
  • Tertiary Education/Whare Wānanga
  • Charitable Trusts
  • Regional or Local Councils
  • Incorporated Societies
  • For-profit businesses/commercial organisations and social enterprises

Examples of who cannot apply:

  • National organisations who already receive Partnership Investment from Sport NZ (Regional Sport Trusts, National Sport and Recreation organisations)
  • Government agencies and their regional branches (e.g. Ministry of Health, Oranga Tamariki)
  • Early Learning Services
  • Professional or semi-professional sports teams and organisations
  • Individuals

Fund types

The Major Fund and Fast Fund have different offerings and requirements. Please read the information below closely to gain an understanding on what Fund is the best option for your project or mission.

Fast Fund

Up to $10,000 is available for each Fast Fund application. Applications will remain open until the funding pool is exhausted.

Do you need support for equipment purchases, facility hire, transport costs or other goods and services?

The Tū Manawa Fast Fund is intended to help play, active recreation and sport providers in the Bay of Plenty overcome barriers that prevent them from delivering great physical activity opportunities to children and young people.

Tu Manawa Fast Fund PDF Application

Status: The Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa Fast Fund applications are open from 5 August 2024 and will remain open until exhausted.

Major Fund

The Tū Manawa Major Fund is targeted at larger scale programmes or projects.

The Major Fund supports projects or programmes on a larger scale. Up to $30,000 is available for each Major Fund application.
