Meet Shannon Pawhau - Community Sport Advisor
Meet Shannon Pawhau, Sport Bay of Plenty’s committed Community Sport Advisor for the Western Bay of Plenty region. Shannon’s role is multifaceted and exciting, with a primary objective of working with clubs to help them achieve their strategic goals. She focuses on developing sustainable approaches to grow membership and ensure clubs thrive.
Although this is Shannon’s first role within the sport sector, her involvement with various clubs and sports is extensive. She has played, coached, and served on committees, and her background in teaching has often meant she has contributed to the planning and rollout of a number of competitions. Her previous experience at Tauranga City Council has also given her a solid understanding of local government policies and procedures.
Shannon’s role is pivotal in supporting councils. She connects people, gathers data and information, and promotes or presents at community forums and workshops. Her insights are invaluable in guiding decision-making around active reserves and other community assets.
Shannon values the close working relationships she has with community members and council representatives. By maintaining honest and transparent relationships, she aims to foster greater connection and trust within the community.
